Bobby Jindal elected as first Indian American Governor of Lousiana

I was passing through the Denver Post building in Downtown Denver when i saw this in their scrolling NEWS Display. Republican Candidate Bobby Jindal, 36 has been elected as the governor of the State of Louisiana.

He is the first Indo American to ever reach this position in this US state. I am not sure if any other state ever had one. He got 54% of the votes while his nearest competitor Walter Boasso got only 18%.

His highlight was his fight against corruption. There has been some incidents of corruption in the state post Katrina .

Jindal, son of Indian immigrants, is Oxford educated. When he first ran for governor in 2003, he lost by some 4%.

Hopefully this is the start of a new phase in Louisiana's politics.
